About this Page
This page aims to provide some basic information regarding issues that affect performance. For your specific needs you should speak to a qualified professional. Peter Kehoe is a Level 5 coach and can be contacted on 0420959406 with any queries (club members can train with Peter for free by arrangement). Other coaching staff with expertise in a range of events are also available. General queries and contributions to this page to training@skaac.org
Gym Access
The club can provide competing members with access to the gym at the $6 million Wilding Sports Centre at St Kevin's College, Moonga Road, Toorak. Access is by arrangement; for information, contact Patrick Noonan on 0419 882 707.
Training and Coaching with SKAAC
SKAAC offers free coaching and training to paid up members, covering the full range of events and standards.
Over the winter season, the main club training is running training on Tuesday and Thursday evenings on the main oval at St Kevin's College, under the expert eye of Peter Kehoe (0420959406). Sessions commence at approximately 5.00 pm, although some athletes arrive slightly later, and usually continue until some time after 6.00 pm.
Alternatively, athletes may:
1. make a mutually convenient arrangement with a SKAAC affiliated coach or training group (see the list of 'SKAAC' Coach Contacts on the right of this page or contact our training co-ordinator); and/or
2. join other members for regular running sessions at mutually convenient times, such as at lunchtimes in the city or on weekends - ask a committee member or regular and they will probably be able to put you in touch with someone who runs at a time and place that is convenient for you.
Peter Kehoe is a Level 5 coach (the highest level of accreditation offered by the ATFCA) who has experience coaching all levels from juniors to international standard athletes. His athletes have won AV cross country championship events, won events at the Austalian National Championships and representated Australia at the World Cross Country Championships.
The club distance running sessions with Peter are free for all paid up SKAAC athletes and we strongly encourage people to go along to at least a few sessions, as you can learn plenty, whatever your level.
If you want a more extensive program or if these sessions do not suit, contact our training co-ordinator to make other arrangements with another coach or group.

Muscles, Weights & Stretches
A club member has referred us to the ExRx Exercise and Muscle Directory.
The site has detailed descriptions of the main muscles in the human body, with examples of weights exercises and stretches that can be used to target each muscle, illustrated with photos and videos.
Obviously for a safe and effective weights or stretching program you should speak to a qualified coach (if you need one, email us at training@skaac.org), but the site does have some very good information for anyone wanting to understand the muscular system and improve their general understanding of the range and role of different stretches and weights exercises.

Nutrition Resources on the AIS Website
Some basic information is available on the AIS Website Nutrition Section
A fairly basic overview of sports nutrition concepts is available for download from the AIS site here - although you need to mentally filter out the advertising bent as the booklet is sponsored by a sportsbar.
More detailed articles in on sports nutrition generally are available in the sports nutrition overview section.
The Research Section also includes articles on more specific subtopics within the sports nutrition field.
